Pastor Paul Matthew Meier
Paul Matthew Meier was born to Pastor Wayne and Kathy (nee Siggelkow) Meier on August 7, 1973. Paul became a child of his heavenly Father through Baptism at his earthly father’s final Sunday service as a vicar at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing, MN. The eldest of four children, Paul grew up in parsonages in Austin, MN; Granger, IN; and Genesee Depot, WI.
Paul’s early Christian education was at Peace Lutheran School in Granger, IN and Trinity Lutheran School in Waukesha, WI. Paul spent his high school and college years in Watertown, WI, graduating from Northwestern Preparatory School (now Luther Prep) in 1991 and Northwestern College (now Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN) in 1995. He then attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI.
Upon graduating from the seminary in 1999, Pastor Meier was assigned to serve at Christ Redeemer Lutheran Church in Trumbull, CT. In 2010, he accepted a call to serve at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Neenah, WI. Earlier this year, he accepted your call to serve as Lead Associate Pastor here at Salem.
Pastor Meier has also served the Kingdom on worship committees for both the North Atlantic and Northern Wisconsin Districts. He was a member of the Mission Advancement Team at Fox Valley Lutheran High School. He has been a pastoral advisor for the Freedom and Paperland Circuits of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society. He is presently on the ballot for the national board of the LWMS, and was recently elected Second Vice President of the Northwestern College Alumni Society. Pastor Meier is a part of the Association of WELS Chaplains and has assisted with Wisconsin Lutheran Institutional Ministries.
During his tenure at Immanuel and with their permission, Pastor Meier helped out in the community. Known affectionately as the “Last Responder,” Pastor Paul was a volunteer firefighter and chaplain on both Clayton Fire Rescue and Winchester Fire Department, a Winnebago County sheriff’s chaplain, a chief elections inspector for the Town of Clayton, and the orchestra conductor for the summer musical of Inspiration Theatre in Winneconne. Paul is also an accomplished organist.
On September 6, 1998, Paul married Angela Lynn Rupnow. Angela grew up in Lake Mills, WI, the middle child and only daughter of Rich and Bev (nee Plummer) Rupnow. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and attended grade school there. Her secondary education was at Lakeside Lutheran High School. She graduated with a B.A. from Ripon College. Angela has worked in order services at Northwestern Publishing House, in retail at a women’s clothing store, as a bank manager, and most recently as an administrative assistant at Neenah Lutheran School. She has also volunteered with Orphan Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, fostering kittens until they are old enough to be adopted.
Pastor Paul and Angela have no children, just cats. At present, they are blessed with Hermione, Max, Maggie, and Rudy. The Meiers are Packer and Brewer fans (hoping to attend more games!). They enjoy Shakespeare plays, symphony concerts and are always in search of a good Friday night fish fry.
Pastor and Angela are excited to be a part of Salem’s family and look forward to getting to know you!
